Looking for a PE Class?

July is almost over and if you are like me then you are gazing into next year with planning and dreamy lessons (which may or may not ever come to fruition, but we can hope!)  If you are looking for a great PE class, open to ages 5-14 then I highly recommend Bowmen Sports.  We’ve been with Coach Nick and his other amazing coaches going on 4 years now.  He’s expanding and just put out a list of where you can find his classes!

Pokémon Go! and Field Trips

Okay so if you’re like me and have noticed an unusual number of people all gathered in groups in random places like malls, parks, corners of the street all staring at their phones then chances are they are all playing Pokémon Go!  What is it you ask?  In short, it’s a new app backed by Microsoft and Google that incorporates the Pokémon characters and the use of GPS to capture loose Pokémon characters .  The object of the game is to collect Pokémon by locating them on the GPS and around Level 5, you begin to use the ones you’ve captured to earn a status in the Pokémon world through duels. The main thing that has drawn attention to this app is the amount of walking kids and adults alike are suddenly doing.  If you are on social media, you’ll notice a lot of these Pokémon posts include the thousands of steps one took while hunting.  It’s reminiscent of Geocaching, except on a virtual level.  On the educational side, what a great way to learn map skills, technology skills, and I’ve even discovered a majority of the check in points are informative/historical in nature.  Soooo, if you love it or have a kiddo that does, it hasn’t taken long for companies to get on board.  I stumbled across an advertisement from the Dallas Arboretum (on Facebook) bragging about their Pokémon collection and inviting people to come out and hunt.  In my opinion, what a great way to combine 2 fun things and as a mom with an older kiddo this is perfect.  Here’s the arboretum info…

Happy Hunting!

Want to learn more about homeschooling?

Happy summer!  I can’t believe it’s already July and I already feel so far behind 🙂  Tomorrow (7/7/16) is a great opportunity to learn more about homeschooling or just learn more about the groups and things to do that are offered in your area.  The Center for Home Education is having an open house tomorrow and the opportunity to check out the campus, meet the teachers, and learn about the fun things that go on there is happening.   If you aren’t familiar with the Center, they offer classes K-12, and extra curricular things like theatre, cooking, music, etc. in a college campus type setting. The ribbon cutting ceremony starts at 10:30, tour starts at 11:00.  Oh did I mention they’ll have a real military truck there!  It’s going to be a blast.  I’ll be there with more info regarding our crazy, fun, social middle school group!  For more info, here’s the link!

Happy Schooling!
